Malay Spicy Chicken



This is a wonderful,spicy,aromatic Malaysian dish and everyone who ate, loved it.
Also my entry for Event for the Month - Chicken hosted by Vandana of Cooking up something nice.

You need

1 lb Chicken pieces,2 onion cubed,6 cloves garlic crushed,1 tsp ginger,1 tsp cumin,1 tsp nutmeg,1 tsp turmeric,1/2 tsp cinnamon,1/4 tsp ground red pepper,1/4 tsp lemon peel,1 cup water,1 tsp sugar,2 tbsp vinegar and salt.

Method
  1. Combine cumin,nutmeg,turmeric,cinnamon,red peppers and lightly roast until fragrant and grind to get a dry powder.
  2. In a wok ,put oil when sizzling add onions,ginger,garlic and the lemon peel and stir fry till lightly browned.
  3. Remove and keep aside.
  4. Add oil and stir fry chicken till cooked well.
  5. Add the ground powder,the cooked onions etc and stir through the chicken.
  6. Stir in water,sugar ,vinegar and salt.
  7. Bring to a boil till half of the water evaporates and thicken to a tasty red gravy.
  8. serve garnished with corriander and spring onions.

Nice looking chicken, doesn't this recipe call for addition of coconut milk......

Thanks!I used to eat a lot of poha when we were in school coz a friend from Mumbai would bring amazing poha for lunch.
No,this recipe didnt ask for coconut in any form.
